Verbena, a birthday flower of July 18th

Verbena (バーベナ) is one of the birthday flowers of July 18th annually, along with Marigold which you will also find detailed on City-cost. Verbena is also a birthday flower of June 24th. It is a flower with delicate clusters of tiny blossoms. It comes in pink, red, purple and white.

Verbena typically blooms between May and October, with individual blossoms lasting about seven days from when they bloom to when they fade. The photo in this post was taken mid-May in a public rose garden. You can often see it in parks and it is also sometimes used as roadside plantings too.

In the Japanese language of flowers, hanakotoba, the overall meaning of verbena is "magic" and / or "charm", a nod to its enchanting appearance. Each individual color also holds a meaning. For example, red verbena represents "unity", while pink mans "family harmony".
