Impressive line up for Ibaraki Airport's Sky Day Event
As part of Japan's annual Sky Day and Sky Week celebrations, Ibaraki Airport Sky Day Event 2026 will be held at Ibaraki Airport on Sunday 27th September 2026 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The event aims to encourage public interest in aviation and introduce visitors to the many people, vehicles, and services that keep an airport running.
The free event will take place around the Ibaraki Airport terminal building and will feature a variety of aviation-themed attractions. Visitors will be able to see aircraft and airport vehicles up close, browse tourism promotion booths representing destinations served from Ibaraki Airport, and meet aviation professionals. Demonstrations by narcotics-detection and quarantine-detection dogs are also scheduled, along with performances by the Hyakuri Air Base Taiko Team.
Several activities highlight the airport's close connection to nearby Hyakuri Air Base. The program includes displays of aircraft and vehicles from the base, a public relations booth, and opportunities to learn more about the work carried out by the Japan Air Self-Defense Force.
Photography enthusiasts may be especially interested in the airport's special aircraft photography session. The event allows participants selected in advance to enter a normally restricted apron area and photograph aircraft from a unique perspective while receiving guidance from an aviation photographer.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, the second Omitama Great Sky Marche will be held on the same day at nearby Sora no Eki Sora-la-la. Visitors can enjoy local foods, regional specialties, and community exhibits, with a free shuttle bus running between the two venues.
For travellers, aviation fans, and families looking for a fun day out, Ibaraki Airport's Sky Day event offers a chance to experience both the world of aviation and the local charm of Omitama City.
