"Sakasama Matsuge" Japanese I never thought I'd need to know

I've been having a bit of eye trouble for the last three weeks. It turns out that I had three "Sakasama Matsuge". Sakasama Matsuge is an ingrown eyelash. A term I hadn't even heard of in English either. Although, as a native English speaker I knew instantly what that meant the minute the doctor said it to me in English. Reportedly, its official medical term is "Trichiasis". 

Apparently, it’s not unusual for people to suddenly develop ingrown eyelashes in mid‑life, even if they’ve never had the problem before - or so the Internet tells me. My doctor said much the same thing. He was kinder about the wording, though. Rather than mentioning middle age, he simply explained that it’s fairly common for this issue to appear out of nowhere, even in people with no prior history of it.

The solution turned out to be simple. He removed the three sakasama‑matsuge, and just like that, the irritating “something‑in-my-eye” feeling I’d had for the past three weeks vanished. He also suggested I remember the Japanese term. Unfortunately, there’s a good chance they’ll grow back inverted again, and if I end up seeing another doctor, it’ll be useful to have the term on hand.
