The Many Japanese Anniversaries About Life’s Final Preparations

Over the last year I have been sharing Japan's various officially registered, daily anniversaries, commemorations and observances. What has really struck me is the number of commemorations related to preparing for death. 

Just last week I shared information about "A Day for Conveying and Sharing Your End of Life Notes". You will also find posts on City-cost about commemorative days dedicated to talking about wills, another about choosing where you will be laid to rest. There is even an anniversary blatantly called "A Day to Think About End of Life".  

There is another one today: A Day for Lifelong Connection Through Pre‑Departure Organizing 永くつながる生前整理の日 (Nagaku tsunagaru seizen seiri no hi). The purpose is to encourage thoughtful pre‑departure (death) organizing; a gentle approach to sorting one’s belongings, memories, and information while reflecting on one’s life.

It seems so morbid, but then again, it is very practical, even sensible. Afterall, if there is one thing in life that is certain...!
