Moving Summer Festivals Indoors

While updating my own website with festival information for August 2026, I came across an interesting change to a summer festival in Kasukabe City, Saitama Prefecture. They have moved the annual Kasukabe Summer Evening Festival indoors.

Historically it is an outdoor festival. Last year, they had some of it indoors and some of it outdoors. But this year it is mostly indoors. There are many benefits to this, the biggest of which is that it makes the festival weatherproof. Whether it's raining or excessively hot, the festival will still be able to go ahead.

As I wrote earlier, my neighborhood’s “summer” festival has been moved to Autumn. Kasukabe, on the other hand, has found a way to safely hold their event without shifting the date. It’s encouraging to see communities adapting in different ways, but it also highlights a growing reality: with global warming pushing summer temperatures higher every year, more municipalities may need to rethink how and when they hold their festivals.
