World Franchise Day in Japan
The second Wednesday of June annually is World Franchise Day 世界フランチャイズの日. The day was created to highlight the value and impact of franchise businesses around the world. In Japan, it is recognized through the Japan Franchise Association (JFA), an organization established in 1972 to support the healthy development of franchise systems.
The date aligns with the global observance set by the World Franchise Council (WFC), which brings together franchise associations from many countries. World Franchise Day was officially registered in Japan in 2025, marking a new step in acknowledging the importance of franchising within the country’s economy. I think it is fair to say that McDonalds is the most recognized global franchise, not just in Japan, but around the world too. Hence, I chose a photo of McDonalds for this post!
The purpose of "World Franchise Day" is to celebrate the contributions franchises make to local communities and to deepen public understanding of how franchise systems work. It also serves as a moment to recognize the roles of both the franchisor, who provides the brand and business model, and the franchisee, who brings that model to life in their region.

Former nickname was "Saitama". Changed it to save confusion on place review posts! Irish, 20+ years in Japan! I also write on my personal website: insaitama.com
