An anniversary dedicated to false eyelashes
Today, and June 6th annually, is Fake Eyelashes Day つけまの日. The anniversary was established by the TSUKEMA Queen Executive Committee, but the application was submitted by D-UP , the company with the No.1 market share in false eyelashes. They chose June 6th as they felt the number 6 resembles an eye wearing false eyelashes. In addition, 6/6 looks like a pair of eyes with lashes applied to both sides.
Fake eyelashes are widely recognized as an iconic item of the modern Japanese kawaii culture. The purpose of the anniversary is to promote them as a symbol of Japanese beauty culture and to share their charm both within Japan and internationally. Personally, I am not into the fake look that is so prevalent in modern society. But at least fake eyelashes don't involve injecting anything into the skin.
Reportedly, the TSUKEMA Queen Executive Committee awards the title of "Tsukema Queen" each year to someone who they think uses eyelashes beautifully and expressively in their makeup style. The one and only time I have ever worn fake eyelashes is on my wedding day! Have you ever worn them before?
