Only in Japan: A day dedicated to the party horn

As you may have gathered by now, I love all the random Japanese anniversaries and observances. But apart from bring a bit of fun and sometimes educational, they are often quite nostalgic too and make me think of things I would not otherwise think of in a million years. One of today's anniversaries is a point in case.

Today, and June 6th annually, is Party Horn Day 吹き戻しの日 (Fukimodoshi Day) in Japan. Thankfully, I had a photo of a Party Horn aka Fukimodoshi in my files. Because, while I can describe it as a party paper horn that unfurls and makes a sound when you blow it, a photo is the best way to showcase an item like this. An item we have all probably seen in our lifetime but may not know the name of.  I certainly didn't know its name in either English or Japanese until today!

The anniversary was created by a Fukimodoshi no Sato a company in Hyogo Prefecture known for producing and selling these classic party toys. They chose the date because the digit '6' resembles a party horn! You can usually get party horns in the 100-yen stores. The one in the photo in this post came in an Easter plastic egg fillers pack I bought online.
