A Day for Tomato Sour in Japan

Today, and October 30th is Tomato Sour Day in Japan. It is a commemorative anniversary created by Kagome, who are well known for manufacturing tomato products, beverages and seasonings. The reason for the October 30th, 10/30, anniversary is a play on the numbers; "To (10) mato Sour (30)".  In addition, the 30th of every month is Sour Day.

While lemon sours have enjoyed enormous popularity across Japan in recent years, tomato sours have emerged as a new trend. Combining shochu or other spirits with tomato juice creates a refreshing taste and savory profile. But moreover, it is seen as a healthier alternative to the sweeter alcoholic beverages.

Reportedly, Tomato Sour have been added to the menus of more izakayas and restaurants in recent years. Reportedly there are even canned versions available too.
