Manner Day - an Only in Japan Observance?

Today, and October 30th annually, is Manner Day マナーの日 in Japan. Previously, I introduced "Manner Instructor Day" which is an anniversary that falls on October 7th. But that anniversary is more about business manners. Indeed, the word "manner" is often associated with business etiquette, but the October 30th observance is more about daily life manners.

The date was chosen because the association itself was founded on 30 October 2008. It is recognized by the Japan Anniversary Association. The purpose of the day is to encourage people to reflect on the importance of good manners in everyday life and to consider how courtesy and respect can contribute to better relationships at home, at work, and within the wider community.

The Japan Service Manner Association promotes etiquette education through training courses, qualifications, seminars, and public lectures. By highlighting the role of good manners, Manner Day encourages people to create more positive, respectful, and harmonious environments wherever they go.

Good manners are appreciated everywhere, but the idea of dedicating a whole commemorative day to them feels very Japanese. I think Manner Day might be exclusive to Japan, making it an interesting reminder of the importance that Japanese society places on respect, courtesy, and consideration for others.
