Keeping cool in summer: Arm Covers
Of the cooling items I have introduced so far, arm covers are the single most frequent summer accessory I see women using in Saitama. I’ve personally never seen a man wear them, though I’m sure some do, but it’s fair to say they’re especially popular with women. This is not a review, rather an explanation of this particular cooling product.

What they are
Arm Covers are literally pieces of material, like a lightweight sleeve, you slip over your hand on to your arms to protect your skin from the summer sun. Most are made from cool‑touch fabrics that feel refreshing against the skin, and many offer UV protection, which is essential during the hottest months. They come in soft neutrals, gentle blues, and simple patterns, but black - although it absorbs heat the most - is the most common and popular. Some styles are fingerless for easy grip, some stop at the wrist on the base and just over the elbow, while others stretch all the way from the fingers to the upper arm.
Arm covers are light and foldable making them ideal for a handbag or even a pocket! They are easy to slip on too, making them suitable for all ages. In a season where staying cool is a daily challenge, arm covers are a small but reliable way to feel a bit more comfortable outdoors.
