A Long-Running Art Market in Inokashira Park

A Long-Running Art Market in Inokashira Park photo

These days, it feels like weekend art markets and handmade craft events are popping up everywhere, but I was surprised to learn that the Inokashira Park Art Market has been around since 2007. Long before the recent popularity of local maker events, this market was already creating a space where artists, craftspeople, performers, and visitors could come together in one of Tokyo's best-loved parks.

The market focuses on handmade artwork and live performances rather than antiques or second-hand goods. Looking at the event map, it's easy to imagine how naturally it fits into the surroundings of Inokashira Park, with creators exhibiting their work among the park's winding paths, ponds, and green spaces.

What stands out to me is its longevity. Many community events come and go, especially after trends change, but the Inokashira Park Art Market has continued for years. That kind of staying power suggests it has built a loyal following among both artists and visitors.

I've never had the chance to visit myself, but it sounds like the sort of place I'd enjoy wandering through. The combination of handmade art, street performances, and a park setting sounds like an eclectic mix that offers something a little different from a typical day out in Tokyo. Sometimes the most interesting discoveries are the events that have quietly been doing their thing for years while the rest of us are only just hearing about them.
