A day for Naan

Today, and July 6th annually, is Naan Day ナンの日 (Nan no Hi) in Japan. The date was chosen as a pun on 7/6 that can be read "Na (7) n (6)". The anniversary was established by JC Comsa, the company behind the Delsole brand, known as a pioneer in Japan's pizza industry.

Drawing on decades of dough‑making expertise, the company expanded into global wheat‑based breads under the concept of “komugi gohan” offering naan, pita, focaccia, tortilla and more as everyday staples. Their signature “hand‑stretched naan” is made by physically stretching the dough to maximize gluten’s natural elasticity, then baking it quickly at high heat to create a crisp exterior and soft, chewy interior reminiscent of traditional tandoor‑baked naan.

While naan is often paired with curry, Naan Day encourages celebrating its versatility, such as topped like pizza (pictured), folded into sandwiches, or enjoyed as a sweet treat with honey or chocolate.
