The best position for a handy fan on a stroller

Often in Japan you see baby strollers with portable or handy fans positioned on the bumper (aka belly / grab / front) bar of a stroller. I understand the reasoning behind this, as it blows cool air directly into the face and upper torso of a baby or small child.

However, research shows that aiming a handy fan directly at the face isn't as effective as many people assume. Tests have found that the best placement on a stroller is actually at the top, so that the airflow moves downward over the baby. This "top to bottom" direction reportedly cools the body more efficiently and is considered the most effective way to help prevent heatstroke.

This was one of the useful tips for summer shared on a recent episode of "School Revolution" (School Kakumei), a popular, long-running variety television program on Nippon TV.
