Hypericum, a birthday flower of June 26th

Hypericum, known as Biyouyanagi ビヨウヤナギ in Japanese, is one of the birthday flowers of June 26th annually. It is also a birthday flower of June 26th too. You will find another of Japan's June 26 birthday flowers, Pentas, also featured on City-cost.

Sometimes the birthday flowers aren't in bloom on the birthday the represent, but the Hypericum is in bloom now all-around Japan. It typically blooms from June to July. The photos in this post were both taken in the first half of June. It typically flowers just as the rainy season settles in, brightening temple paths, parks and roadside plantings with its vivid yellow.  The flower's most distinctive feature is its spray of long, delicate stamens that rise like tiny fireworks from the center.

In the Japanese language of flowers, 'hanakotoba', the flower represents "nobility," from the elegant impression created by the vivid golden flowers and their long, curved stamens that rise like fine golden threads. It also means "sensitivity" also said to be inspired by those long stamens.

Have you seen any hypericum flowers yet this year?
