How i got into Japan's daily anniversaries
My interest, some might say obsession, with Japan's daily observances, anniversaries and commemorations all started with a new car a few years ago!
That car has a car navigation system that "talks" to me when it is first turned on, on any given day. And one of its pre-programmed functions is to share an anniversary of the day. There are many anniversaries and commemorations every day of the year in Japan. But the navigation system only divulges one anniversary a day, usually the most famous one.
I became very interested about what other anniversaries were on a given day, so I searched online and found the Japan Anniversary Association website. There they share all of the official, registered anniversaries for each and every day of the year. And it became a daily read for me. Reading about the anniversaries and observances each day offers some light relief with everything that is going on in the world at the moment.

@genkidesu aw, thank you. The satnav anniversary feature can go in the long list of "things I never knew I 'needed' until I lived in Japan"!
