Shrine at the heart of Tochigi City
Wherever I visit, I make a point of visiting a shrine to pay my respects. Shinmeigu was on my way back from Tochigi City's preserved kura storehouses, and I thought I'd stop by. I'm glad I did. The shrine which dates back to the year 1403 enshrines Amaterasu. The lore says the shrine lent its name to Tochigi Prefecture after its 10 chigi roof ornaments. It's lovely and there's a pond with a fountain and an aviary behind the shrine. The shrine issues goshuin stamps, too.
