Year-round display hall for autum festival

Ohayashikan is the culture center in Sakura City that displays objects and photos related to the castle town's festivals focused on the autumn festival held every year in mid-October. When we visited the guide was busy with a tour group so we listened in as she explained the significance and history of the effigies on the dashi floats that parade through the town. Our visit was in January and she explained that the children's groups were beginning to practice for flute and drum ensembles that feature in that festival. This is a huge event that takes months of preparation. We could see a huge standard with a sword-like ornament and two of the float effigies that are larger than life. Admission is free .
