Omiya Bonsai Village

Visit during the bonsai festival

Omiya Bonsai Village is worth a visit at anytime of the year. You can ramble between nurseries and even take some bonsai workshops. But if you want to get photos of bonsai, I particularly recommend visiting during the annual bonsai festival in May. Many of the nurseries do not allow photography outside of the festival period. The Bonsai Museum, which is located within the village, also has some photography rules - there are a few bonsai you can photograph, but many of them you cannot. Please note that if you are visiting as a tourist, it is a complicated and lengthy procedure (involving quarantine) to ship a bonsai outside of Japan.
