Park with athletic playground, sledge fun, family pool and camping grounds

The Nasu Nogahara Park is absolutely huge. We only got to see a small part of it on our most recent visit to the Nasu / Nasushiobara area. You can drive close to the main attractions and park so that you don't have to walk kilometres to the area where you want to play. So that is exactly what we did. We drove down to the parking near the windmill. The drive from the main entrance to the windmill and free playground is at about a kilometre, maybe more, through an avenue of trees which although bare at this time of the year, are still very beautiful. The car park in this area is only a few minutes walk to the giant spider web climbing where there is also some slides and other playground equipment. Just behind that there is another free playground, "Wanpaku Hiroba" with more slides. There are swings and various see saw rides there too. The highlight for my kids was the sandbox with a crane and other pulling ropes for lifting sand and then sending it down a tunnel. Behind this playground is the very popular athletic playground, a challenge for both adults and children. The park and the car parks are free, but the athletic playground is charged. It costs 300 yen for adults and 150 yen for children from 6 years old. This field athletic playground isn't suited to small children. There are also battery cars beside the 2 free playgrounds which cost money to operate. There is parking for 1200 cars. The park is open from 8.30 am to 6.30 pm, except from November to March when it closes at 5.30 pm. The athletic playground closes on Tuesdays during off seasons.
