What train finder service do you use?

I had been using Hyperdia for years to search for train routes, times and fares in Japan but for whatever reason Hyperdia as of this month no longer offers information about train departure / arrival times which makes it pretty useless for me. This is the notification from Hyperdia about them ending this service (in Japanese): https://www.hyperdia.com/report/reporttimetableend.html I've since had a look at this "Japan Transit Planner" instead, which seems to do a decent job: https://world.jorudan.co.jp/mln/en/ Has anyone got any other train finder recommendations? Website or app.

I typically just use Google Maps these days...it's easy enough to plug in where I'm going and where I'm headed and it pulls up route info.

The Jorudan app and Google Maps are adequate. Google Maps is pretty reliable for local bus connections, too. However, I'm trying out Ekitan and Ekispert this coming week.

@genkidesu Thanks. I had been so locked into Hyperdia, I hadn't even thought about Google Maps.

I've always used Jorudan norikae in Japanese, so another vote for Jorudan.

@helloalissa Thanks. Jorudan seems to be a popular choice.

I used to use the Yahoo one, but nowadays I just go for Google Maps'. I do wish the cost is easier to see on their app though

Google maps is quite useful. If you prefer a website yahoo 路線情報 is my go to site for train search.

Your "buy it for life" purchases in Japan

There's a reddit community I really enjoy reading called r/buyitforlife. As the name suggests, people outline purchases that they've made that truly stand the test of time. Kitchen items, clothing, shoes, etc... What have been your "buy it for life" items here?

How well does your home country insulate homes compared to here?

One thing I struggle with is the lack of insulation in Japanese homes, with summers often feeling like you're living in a sauna and winters feeling like outside is the same temperature as inside. In saying that, my home country isn't fab with insulation either. They're still very much a nation of single paned windows and minimal stuff in the walls to regulate temperature well. Does your home country do insulation well compared to here?
