Inflation relief measures in your city or prefecture

Are you getting a break where you are from the increase in prices? Noda City, Chiba Prefecture has reduced the water bill by half for a limited time. Chiba Prefecture cooperates with some electronic payments so residents and visitors get 10% cash back for the month of November. Are you getting breaks where you are?

That's fantastic that your local area is taking the initiative to do that! Nothing here (yet), but I do hope they implement something over winter. Our electricity and gas bills go through the roof then, so some respite would be nice.

We got a 4.000 Yen coupon per person that you can use in certain shop and restaurants in the city. No reductions of water or electricity bill though.

That's a lot more than what we're getting in Miyagi. So far, they've sent ¥5000 in vouchers for local food and such to each household to try to fight inflation and those expire at the end of this month. There were previous incarnations of this for which people had to apply at city hall and those vouchers expire at the end of this month. My husband assures me that nothing else is currently being done.

Your best 100 yen store buys

I love finding useful things at 100 yen stores, although I primarily go there for crafting supplies. I'd love to know what your best 100 yen store purchases have been. Maybe it's a kitchen implement that makes life a bunch easier, or a storage item that has given you back more space and a feeling of organization. Maybe it's even home decor that just brings you joy or something along those lines! Looking forward to hearing about your fave buys!

Reflections on our home countries after living in Japan

I think one thing living in Japan has given me is an appreciation of things my country does really well, and things it doesn't do so well in comparison to here. For instance, I think Australia is great with annual leave entitlements. You get four weeks automatically (some workplaces offer even more!) and there's not any guilt associated with taking it. Something we don't do so well is public transport. I know that Australia is a massive country, but there has been talk of creating a high speed rail option from Melbourne to Sydney for ages, and nothing has ever come of it. It's basically an 8 hour drive or flying. Also, inner city trains are regularly not on time. What are the things you think your home country does better or worse than Japan?

Hair Color Treatments for Greying Hair

For those of you who have colored grey hair, I'm curious about the hair color treatments available in most drugstores. They seem simpler to use than box dyes. It's been many years since I've colored my hair. It's a chestnut brown and my grey is more silver. I don't hate it but the grey is dry and making me feel like I look older than I am. I'm especially interested in the natural brands that are non-permanent. For example Rishiri Kombu sounds like a decent option. Looking forward to your recommendations and experience.
