"Pocket money" sites?

With Christmas under 100 days away, it's a time of year where I really try to increase any extra earnings I can make for my household -- obviously there's a lot more outgoing expenses for those of us that celebrate at the tail end of the year. Back when I was a university student in my home country, there were lots of different market research survey sites where you could earn a bit of extra cash and be paid either via direct deposit to your bank account or with gift cards for supermarkets and the like. Does anyone know of any similar sites like that here? Obviously I'm not expecting tons of cash from any of them, but hey -- anything extra helps!

I get occasional offers from Japan Spark and E-Gaikokujin. Sometimes I have to turn down on-site surveys because they’re on weekdays when I’m working. I’m curious, too, about other similar product survey sites.

@TonetoEdo I've had a few from E-Gaikokujin too, but they tend to be few and far between. They pay decently, though, from the surveys I've completed through them – I've received a few 300 yen gift cards for Amazon from them for just a few minutes of a survey.

@genkidesu Ah! Spark’s invites have become less frequent, too. I also tried Swagbucks for surveys but the points accumulate slowly.

I started to use a site based in the UK called Prolific last year. It's great as far as survey sites go and I get a few surveys a month. They pay decently in Pounds and US Dollar, transferred to a PayPal account. They have a waitlist and limit participants, so you can register and see if there is a need for someone with your demographics. https://app.prolific.com/register/participant

Not a survey website, but a travel-oriented one is WAWO. They sometimes have surveys and also monitor tours that pay honoraria.

I use the macromill app. Make about 1.000 to 2.000 yen per month with surveys. If you get chosen for product tests or group interviews you can make a lot more, but I never get chosen. Here is a referral link if you are interested. https://monitor.macromill.com/int/?entry_kbn=460&int_id=Z18315322A

What's on your "generic" local manhole?

My local area has some specialty manholes (including some from the Gundam manhole project not too far away!) but the most common "generic" one features mountains and watermelon. Fairly representative of the region, I think! What's on yours?

Do you have a favorite mascot?

The other day, on "Strawberry Day" I wrote about "Yoshimin", the strawberry mascot of Yoshimi. I thought it might be fun to introduce a few others, so I've just written about "Tokimo" the mascot of Kawagoe. And I plan to introduce a couple of my favorites. It begs the question, do you have a favorite mascot? And how about writing a post on City-cost about your favorite or a local mascot? Pictured "Umerin" who I plan to write about next!

Who is your hero!?

Today, January 16th, is Hero Day. Who is your favorite hero, fictional or otherwise? The first one who comes to my mind for me is a real life person; Mary Robinson, a former president of Ireland (moreover, the first female president), and a former United Nations High Commissioner of Human Rights, among other impressive roles. I had the great pleasure of meeting her in December, a dream come true. I was trying to think about who my favorite fictional hero is. I have not come to conclusion yet! There is such a choice. Do you have one?

International cuisine that's hard to come by?
