Kanto area easily accessible Hina Matsuri 2024

Many places in the Kanto area are starting to display dolls for Hina Matsuri. Which ones do you recommend that are worth seeing and easy to access by train? I'm considering a long trip to Makabe in Sakuragawa City, Ibaraki Prefecture. I'd have to take a bus or rent a bicycle from the nearest major hub because I'm not a driver.

I've been to both of the ones mentioned already. Gajoen's is AMAZING and well worth making the journey to. Konosu is also worth visiting in my opinion. The main display is in Elumi Shopping Centerwhich is right beside Konosu station and the pyramid is still the tallest in Japan. Moreover, you can Japan's smallest and biggest hina dolls at one of the satellite sites - Hina no Sato - which is a manageable walk from Konosu station. It takes about 20 to 25 minutes on foot I think. There is also a loop bus, but it only goes on weekends. There is a special loop bus for all six of the sites of the festival on March 3rd only. The very special Hina car will be on display tomorrow, March 2nd, at the Kakyu no Sato site, which is in a more remote location. As is the Pansy House site, but it has a gorgeous flower hina display. I've information for all of these on my personal website! But if you have any further questions about the ones mentioned here, I'm happy to respond here - I'll try to keep an eye on this thread over the coming days!

The one at Hotel Gajoen in Tokyo looks nice and easy to access from Meguro Station, but I can't say I've personally been there for this event: https://www.hotelgajoen-tokyo.com/100event/hinamatsuri2024

Seems like the Konosu Bikkuri Hinamatsuri in Saitama is going to be held this year. It used to be the tallest hina display in Japan but I don't know if the same can be said this year. https://www.elumikonosu.com/top_slide/images/20240119_155038_2.jpg I've seen some social media pics of the one in Hotel Gajoen, it looks impressive!

How well does your home country insulate homes compared to here?

One thing I struggle with is the lack of insulation in Japanese homes, with summers often feeling like you're living in a sauna and winters feeling like outside is the same temperature as inside. In saying that, my home country isn't fab with insulation either. They're still very much a nation of single paned windows and minimal stuff in the walls to regulate temperature well. Does your home country do insulation well compared to here?

Do you wear kimono? When and where?

In what environments have you worn kimono, hakama, or other traditional clothing? My only kimono experience is Heian period garb - basket hat, veil, and hakama - at a regional festival. I'm curious about daily kimono wear. Have you found a community or school that trains you in kimono wear? How much time do you dedicate to dressing?

What do you MOST associate with Oita?

Seen as there was a good response to the same question for Ibaraki AND today is Oita Prefecture day (although they don't celebrate it), what is the first thing that comes to mind when I say "Oita Prefecture"? I have written a post about Oita Prefecture day with what I most associate with it, but I won't write it here so as not to influence your answer, but you can read the post here; https://www.city-cost.com/blogs/BigfamJapan/Mnv34-living_oita
