Living in Kochi

Kochi Prefecture is located on Shikoku Island in the western part of Japan. A great portion of the prefecture's land is made up of mountains, and because of this, almost half of the population resides in Kochi City, the prefecture's capital. This prefecture has a population of just 757,914, one of the lowest in all of Japan. Kochi City, together with Kochi Prefecture, is the most typhoon prone area of Japan. Kochi City has one of the highest yearly precipitation averages, 2547.5mm per year. Every year in Kochi Prefecture the Yosakoi Festival takes place during which thousands of dancers can be seen throughout the city.
