Living in a Prefecture With a Weird Name
If you live in Japan, you may have had this experience:
Where do you live? How do you spell that? F-U- what?
(Then never hearing the place pronounced correctly from your contacts back home.)
As the main airport in Kyushu is also close to Fukuoka City, we get a lot of funny looks based on the airport code. It's funny when making reservations over the phone too.
I think some small shop owners in the city realize what this sounds like and are using it to get some free publicity.
The same probably happens in Fukushima.
Maybe your prefecture or city sounds funny in a different way?
