The description

This is a dessert from Kyushu, where I lived for almost five years, yet I had never tried it until living in Osaka. (I don't regret waiting so long to try it.)

The good

This product is sold in some convenience stores, but usually supermarkets are cheaper. White bear, or polar bear is a popular animal to represent anything cold. Shirakuma comes in several flavors and I heard from a student that strawberry is good. It's a favorite so I went with strawberry to start. This 'rakuto ice' has strawberry flavored shaved ice, some vanilla ice cream(? see negative features), mango, strawberry and red beans. It says that it contains 7% fruit juice and fruit. It was tasty and I ate all of it.

The not so good

The "ice cream" was very artificial tasting, I don't know, maybe it was whipped cream? I honestly couldn't identify it. The strawberry flavor was okay but not really natural tasting. The frozen fruit was real but all frozen together in a flat piece, even after the shaved ice started melting. It took some work to break it into smaller pieces. In my opinion this doesn't compare to homemade shaved ice made with a cheap shaver. (Not even close to the real thing made with old fashioned metal ice shavers.)
