Rich Malt: 75% Less Sugar

Sometimes it's hot (or not) and you've had a long day (or not) and just feel like drinking a refreshing beer.

It's a rare occasion that I drink beer these days, although I like it. Yesterday was one of those days I wanted a beer with dinner.

After work I stopped by the store for something quick for dinner and a beer. I just grabbed this Suntory Rich Malt because it was the cheapest beer I saw at 105 yen including tax. (A special price and they were nearly gone because of it.) I didn't really notice the 75% off sugars part. There are some potential artificial sweeteners in the ingredient list, but not specifically listed. I usually avoid things like aspartame so I would have checked it if I was paying attention.

Keep in mind that I'm not an expert on malt liquors or anything. My husband and I split one can of this 4% alcohol beer, being the lightweights that we are, and it was a weekday. It was light and refreshing - reminding me a little of Pabst Blue Ribbon or Bud Light. It didn't taste like fake sugars or like the balance of sweetness and bitterness was weird.

We enjoyed it and I might take up drinking beer more often this summer, if it's in small quantities. I wouldn't mind drinking this one again, but I'd probably go for trying something new as there are so many I've never had. We usually prefer darker beers too.
