The Best Reaction to Noise Pollution

So there we were, hanging out in the house when we heard some beeping of trucks, some rumble of machinery, and then a series of loud crashes.  We used to live on an Air Force Base, so we are no strangers to noise pollution, but being out in the country now, we expect to hear crickets and frogs more often than man-made noise.  So imagine our surprise when we heard heavy machinery that sounded like it was right outside our door.  We opened up our curtains and, well...

...the construction was taking place about 15 feet from our window!

There are many ways to react to this situation, including, but not limited to:

- Anger over the construction team's failure to notify us of their intent to do heavy construction next to our property

- Frustration over the constant noise we'd be hearing over the next few days

- Concern that the construction crew would accidentally damage our property going in an out with heavy equipment

Still, my favorite reaction (and one that helped me laugh at the situation) was from my daughter:

"AN EXCAVATOR!  YAY!"

So we sat and watched the crew for a while with my daughter excited the entire time.

The world through the eyes of a 2-year old is definitely a much more fun and tolerable place, I think!

Hitting the books once again as a Ph.D. student in Niigata Prefecture. Although I've lived in Japan many years, life as a student in this country is a first.

Blessed Dad. Lucky Husband. Happy Gaijin (most of the time).
