Communists visiting my door before 0630???
My dog is hardly what you would call a guard dog. Tipping the scales at about 18 pounds when he's wet, he won't be much good in a fight. Still, he is an excellent watch dog. That means if someone comes knocking around the house at 6:30 in the morning, he makes sure everyone in the house knows what's going on.
That's exactly what happened this morning. But it wasn't a dorobo (thief) or some other type of criminal, it was someone who wanted to put this in our door:
...an election flyer. Which party came to my house before 6:30 to drop this off? The Communists. I'm not even disdainful of their present-day politics--they are not the same radicals they were in the 60s and 70s. I am disdainful of the pre-6:30 house calls.
Come on guys, if the collective society you want me to live in requires me to be ready to answer my door before I've had my requisite two cups of coffee, you can definitely count me out.
Not that I can even vote anyway...but for a political party that champions principles, can they please add "campaigning only happens after 8:00 AM" to the list?
Hitting the books once again as a Ph.D. student in Niigata Prefecture. Although I've lived in Japan many years, life as a student in this country is a first.

6:30!!! That's some impressive commitment to the cause. I think I might take that over being shouted at through a loudspeaker, though. Although, to be honest (and if I could vote), the party that keeps the noise down the most would get mine.
