A sharp rise in flu cases here in Niigata
Winter often serves as a little reminder of how seriously Japan takes public health. This year's flu season in here Niigata has been particularly noticeable, with infections rising drastically across the region and an official warning still in place.

According to local reports, Niigata's flu cases recently jumped to more than 1400 in a single week, and that's about 1.3 times higher than the week before. The big thing to note is how many children have been affected, with those under 14 making up roughly three-quarters of cases. Not surprising if you have kids and know how quick things spread between them!
In saying that, I do appreciate how everyday prevention is woven into daily life here, especially mask wearing. If you haven't received the flu vax for this year, you might want to consider that as well. Stay safe and healthy!
