The "Japanese walking method" for health

Something I've seen online a lot over recent weeks is the idea of the "Japanese walking method" for health. Initially before clicking into some of the articles I assumed they meant the 10,000 steps a day concept (ToneToEdo has done a great write-up about it here), which is another Japanese idea.

The Japanese walking method is something else entirely, though. It was developed by two professors at Shinshu University, and it involves walking at a brisk pace for three minutes, then three minutes of slow paced walking. Basically, it's interval training in the walking realm ;)

It's pretty well backed, too, with research finding that those who participated in this kind of walking saw positive changes in things like their aerobic fitness, BMI, and blood pressure.

If you already walk for fitness (whether it's outside or inside on a treadmill), this kind of walking strategy might be something to consider. I know I'm going to give it a try and see if it makes any noticeable differences!

This sounds good as I have learned alternating jogging and walking is also good. I did that once recently and it gave me a headache, so especially over the summer, trying this way of walking is not as intimidating.
