The description
This product is mochi dumplings with red bean paste topped with whipped cream. I purchased it from my local Family Mart store, and it was priced at 298 yen including tax.
The good
I really liked that this dessert felt sweet but not overly so -- it's one of the main things I love about Japanese dessert products. The mochi and the red bean paste are fairly neutral in taste, but the whipped cream provides just enough sweetness to make it feel a little more dessert-like. The portion size is just right for an individual serving, and it's surprisingly filling -- probably owing to the red beans that provide a bit of protein! If you enjoy more Japanese-inspired sweet treats, I think this is a nice option to try.
The not so good
There were a few negatives for me with this product, so I'll try and outline them in dot point form. - It's very high calorically. The whole thing is 346 calories, which for me is very high for a single portion dessert. Depending on your activity level that may not apply to you, but it's something I had to keep in mind! - It uses tsubuan instead of koshian. I always prefer koshian because I like the smooth consistency over the chunky kind. I do think that with the whipped cream maybe the tsubuan was a better choice (otherwise it would have been too much smoothness going on!) but I'm not the biggest tsubuan fan. - I felt that it was quite expensive for what it is, at almost 300 yen for a bit of bean paste, whipped cream, and some mochi bites.
