Tokyo 10th on world's most diverse food cities list

Before moving to Japan, one of my bosses back home in Australia was raving about the food scene here. She said she'd had some of the best Italian food of her life in Tokyo, and I thought to myself surely not! I was still very much in the mindset that Japan was just a sushi and ramen stop, so needless to say I was humbled after living here!

I was pretty happy, then, to see Tokyo rank 10th on the world's most diverse food cities list. The ranking was put together by Holafly (esim company), and they used Tripadvisor restaurant data to compare how much of each city's dining scene is local versus international.

The methodology also factored in the number of Michelin-starred restaurants, the range of international cuisines available, and how easy it is to find vegetarian and gluten-free options.

For me, Tokyo's placement feels well deserved. Yes, it's a powerhouse of Japanese cuisine, but it's also packed with incredible Italian, Indian, Middle Eastern, and more. For expats, that's some genuinely good news, since you're not limited to one style of eating.
