Encouraging new steps by McDonalds Japan to prevent food waste

In case you missed it, the recent Pokémon card promo at McDonald's stores across the country went completely off the rails. A bunch of collectors and resellers rushed to snap up dozens of Happy Sets at once, leaving mountains of untouched food behind just to get their hands on the limited-edition cards. It was all chaotic enough that the Consumer Affairs Agency stepped in, asking McDonald's to get serious about preventing food waste.

They are actually following through on this, and starting from this Friday, Happy Sets with new toys will only be sold in-store or via drive-thru, so that means no app orders or delivery allowed on release day. Between September 12–15 and again September 26–28, limits will also be placed on how many sets a single group can buy. Normal menu items aren't affected.
