Halloween at Mister Donut

I grew up in Australia, and during my childhood Halloween wasn't really a thing. However, I married an American, and he grew up with all of the stereotypical Halloween traditions, including trick or treating, decorating his childhood home, and dressing up in costumes for the occasion.

Because of that, we try to incorporate Halloween into the lives of our Aus-merican kids who are growing up in Japan, and thankfully over the years it has become easier and easier to do so. One of the simplest ways is through food, as a number of retailers bring out limited-edition seasonal eats at this time of year. I typically check to see what fun things I can find at convenience stores and supermarkets, but another great place that releases a Halloween themed line each year is Mister Donuts. Their Halloween range this year consists of five different donuts, which are all priced at a reasonable 172 yen including tax.

The 2022 collection includes:

  • The Black Cat Donut
  • Frankenstein Donut
  • Pon De Choco Devil Donut
  • Pink Jack 'O Lantern Donut
  • Pink Mummy Donut (this one was unavailable when I visited)

This year's Mister Donut Halloween collection consists of 5 different donuts, and I was able to snag four of them on a recent visit to one of their stores. The back left is the Frankenstein donut, back right is the Pon de Choco Devil donut, front left is the black cat donut, and front right is the pink Jack 'o Lantern donut.

We shared these as a family, and I'd say my favorites were the chocolate ones. The black cat donut in particular is a must for chocolate lovers, as it's a chocolate flavored donut which is coated with chocolate frosting and then decorated with chocolate ears. Plus, it just looks adorable – I mean, how can you resist that cuteness?!

Of all the donuts we tried in the Mister Donuts Halloween range, my personal favorite was the Black Cat donut – I definitely recommend it if you're a chocolate fan!

I really liked that this was an accessible and quite budget-friendly way to get into the Halloween spirit, and since the donut range is available at stores across the country I hope that it will be the same for anyone reading this, too. Happy eating, and Happy Halloween!

Have you noticed any Halloween treats popping up on store shelves, cafes, or restaurants near you? If there are any products you've tried and enjoyed, I'd love to see a blog about them!
