Get ready for a potential week-long cold snap
Make sure you've got all your winter woollies out this week! According to the Japan Meteorological Agency we're looking at a prolonged cold snap, where temperatures remain below average for more than 7 days.

Rain and wet snow are expected in northern regions today, which will be followed by a more significant drop in temperatures from tomorrow. Snowfall is set to increase along the Sea of Japan coast, and parts of Tohoku and the San'in region could see heavy snow serious enough to disrupt travel and daily life. Northerly winds will also strengthen, making it feel even colder.
A big part of why this cold snap is set to be so notable is its reach, with snow forecast as far south as Kyushu later in the week, including areas such as Fukuoka and possibly Kagoshima. Central Tokyo is also expected to see several days of near-freezing temps.
The cold air is likely to linger into next weekend, so preparing early (e.g. checking heating, allowing extra travel time, and protecting water pipes) will be important. Stay safe out there!
