Why you should try amazake this summer

It has already been so hot and humid this summer, and with miles to go until its over, I think it's important to do whatever we can to take care of our health. One of those components is being mindful of what we're consuming so that we can really feel optimal, and while I often find myself reaching for icy treats, there are absolutely some better options out there.

If you've never tried amazake before, I'd implore you to give it a try this summer. The literal translation of it is sweet sake, and I think it's commonly seen as a wintertime drink and served warm. However, it's delicious when you serve it cold, and it has a host of nice health benefits that fit well with this time of year.

For instance, amazake is jam-packed with a bunch of different vitamins and other goodies (specifically B vitamins, amino acids, and enzymes from the fermentation process), so it works well as a bit of a pick-me-up drink on those stinking hot days. It's looked as an easier way to replenish your energy when you're really not feeling like you can eat much -- I know that for many folks, the summer months cause a drop in appetite, so this can be a little workaround to that.
