Niigata records its first measles case since 2019
Some not-so-great news for us folks living in Niigata, with confirmation coming out that a man in his 40s was diagnosed with measles. It marks the first reported case here since 2019.

From what's been shared, he initially visited a medical facility with symptoms like a fever, but his health didn't improve and he was later diagnosed. At this stage, local authorities are looking into where he'd been since his symptoms first appeared. As I'm sure most of us already know, measles is highly contagious and spreads through the air, which is why officials are urging anyone who suspects infection to contact a clinic in advance rather than turning up unannounced.
I think this kind of news is a good reminder not to brush off symptoms too quickly, especially during winter. It's also a chance for us as expats to double-check our vaccination histories, since schedules can vary so much by country. There's no sign of any wider spread right now, but staying informed helps all of us look after ourselves and the community as a whole.
