How much time do you spend outdoors?

As an expat in Japan, one thing I've noticed about life here is just how much time I spend outside compared with my home country, in big part because daily life seems to encourage it. I walk more, explore more, and weekends often end up being spent in parks, mountains, or along the coast. That might be why a recent UK survey finding that nearly half of adults spend less than three hours a week in nature really caught my attention.

The research found that many people have fond childhood memories of climbing trees, building dens, and exploring the outdoors, yet almost half now spend fewer than three hours each week in natural settings such as parks, gardens, fields, or woods. One in ten spend less than an hour.

It's important to note that as an Australian, the stats don't directly reflect my own upbringing, but even so, the findings feel relevant. Living in Japan has made me appreciate how naturally spending time outdoors becomes part of everyday life here. I even notice it when it comes to public holidays like Marine Day and Mountain Day, which seem to promote that love of nature.

Do you spend more time in the great outdoors here in Japan than you did in your home country?

That would make a great question for the Q&A section!
