Over the years here, the cute character themed collaborations that pop up have become more and more endearing to me. I saw that Chiikawa and Matsuya were collaborating with a few products, and so I gave their spicy curry a try this week. For 980 yen you get a very generous serving of curry and rice, along with a bowl of miso soup if you're dining in. It's also decorated in a very cute way, but the piece de resistance is the little toy you also get with your meal. I'm a fully grown adult and I still find these kinds of things so much fun...I think the toy will end up as a decoration at my desk!

If you do opt to get the curry as a takeout item, you don't get the miso soup with it. Perhaps that's not a deal breaker, but just something to consider if you're wanting to maximize your value for money. Also, the Chiikawa toy you get is given at random, and there are a few different ones you can possibly get. If you're after a specific one it's just the luck of the draw, unfortunately. Overall, the curry was good, the free miso soup was a nice addition, and the toy is cute and makes it feel a little more like a special meal. Head into your nearest Matsuya soon if you also want to grab one.
