The description

This product is a chocolate matcha terrine, and it's a limited time product in collaboration with tea purveyors Kanbayashi. It was priced at 298 yen including tax.

The good

This product is part of a collaborative range between Family Mart and Kanbayashi, and the terrine felt like great quality. Immediately when you take the terrine out of its packaging you can see it's dusted with gold flakes on top, so it just feels a little more elegant and upmarket than your standard convenience store dessert. I loved the texture of this dessert as well. It's got a gooey, ganache-style consistency, which made it feel really indulgent. If it wasn't in convenience store packaging I would have assumed it was from a high-end bakery or similar.

The not so good

I don't have a lot of negative commentary to add for this product. I really liked it in terms of both taste and texture, and I also thought the presentation with the gold flakes on top elevated it past usual konbini dessert standards. Even though the price was almost 300 yen, I felt that it was justified given the quality of the dessert overall. It does come in a plastic container within the plastic outer wrapper, and this is clearly done to keep the product intact due to its soft consistency. In saying that, it is a bit of excess plastic packaging and I do wonder if they could have achieved the same result with a sturdy cardboard inner.
