You can always count on some of Japan's popular convenience store sweets to branch out in seasonal versions, and the much-loved choco pie is just one example of that. They've gone big this year with several autumny versions of the classic treat, and this Mont Blanc Choco Pie is a winner. It's a multi-faceted dessert, with the base being a chestnut flavored cake, the inner filling being a Mont Blanc cream and burnt caramel sauce, and the entire outer being coated in white chocolate. Everything works well together for a tasty treat, and the price felt pretty reasonable at 151 yen including tax -- about where I would have expected it, so no real issues/complaints there.

Obviously if you find yourself really liking this one, it's only going to be around for the autumn period...and that's always a bit of a bummer. If you do love it, you could always stock up on a few extra for when the craving strikes if you feel it's worth it! Also, I do think the white chocolate coating makes this feel a little sweeter than some other choco pie variants, so just keep that in mind -- if you like a more subtle sweetness then this might not be the best option for you. Overall though, solidly tasty and it's always fun to enjoy these seasonal-limited releases. Keep an eye out for it near you!
