The description

This product is a tsubuan (chunky red bean paste) and whipped cream filled doramochi. It was purchased from Lawson's Uchi Cafe sweets range for 192 yen including tax.

The good

Lawson produces these doramochi (basically a chewier textured dorayaki) every now and then with different fillings, and this one with tsubuan (chunky red bean paste) and whipped cream is a nice option if you like the fusion of Japanese and Western tastes. I liked how the whipped cream added a nice sweetness to complement/offset the more earthy red bean paste, and the doramochi was very generously filled so overall it felt like pretty good value for money. I'd probably purchase it again if the craving struck!

The not so good

I almost always would prefer koshian (the smooth red bean paste) over the chunky, tsubuan variety, but that's just a personal preference thing. I'm sure plenty of folks probably appreciate and enjoy the contrast between the smooth whipped cream and the textured red bean paste, so if that's you I say you should definitely try this sweet treat. Apart from my tsubuan critique, I think this is a solidly tasty snack, and coming in at under 200 yen I felt like it represented decent value for money. Worth a try if you like red bean filled desserts!
