The description

This product is a matcha roll cake, which is part of a collaboration between Lawson's Uchi Cafe and Kyoto's tea purveyors Morihan. It was priced at 214 yen including tax.

The good

Of the several matcha products I've tried in this Lawson x Morihan collaboration range, I felt like this one had the strongest matcha taste – so if you're a big matcha lover I recommend this product for the biggest flavor punch. I felt like the price was very reasonable at 214 yen including tax – the portion size is also quite large which increases that value for money feeling. I found it large enough to split with my husband and still feel satiated. The sponge cake and the matcha cream are both delicious, and even though the matcha taste is very strong it's definitely not too bitter.

The not so good

There were a few things that I wasn't a fan of with this product, the first one (and main one) being the ratio of sponge cake to cream. The cream is so dominant, and I feel like the cake would have been substantially more enjoyable if there was a better balance happening. The packaging also uses a plastic outer wrap, plus a plastic "shell" casing to keep the product in place with. I understand this is done for aesthetic reasons, but I think if the product had less cream and more cake it wouldn't have been so necessary to have this additional plastic portion. Worth a try if you're a matcha fan, but I wouldn't go out of my way to repurchase it.
