Konyaku Ajillo packet

Konyaku Ajillo packet photo

For whatever reason, I cannot find the picture of the packaging for this but I found this packet of konyaku at my local grocery store. I have been trying new things once a week to try and make my lunchtimes a bit more interesting. I love ajillo so I thought why not. The packet itself only contained balls of konyaku and a seasoning pouch The konyaku needed to be drained rinsed and heated in the frying pan until all of the water is cooked off. Then you add oil and the seasoning packet and saute a bit until the garlic turns brown. I added garlic shoots for color and nutrients. I think the heat was a little high because the garlic flakes clumped. The smell was amazing! But unfortunately, the konyaku just did not work well for this. Because it is meant to mimic shrimp like the original recipe, it had a very fishy smell however the konyaku texture which I wouldn't normally mind just didn't connect with the flavor. I couldn't help think of funky overcooked shrimp. This was a no go for me. Too bad because the seasoning was perfect.
