Korean Yopokki chocolate treat
As with everything in Japan, trends seem to come and go. A recent trend I have seen in the supermarket has been Korean treats. I saw the cheese dog in the freezer department and topokki, the mochi rice cake like tubes, featured for months now in the main display. Last week, this Yoppoki chocolate snack appeared. It is to-koki with chocolate and microwavable. I love mochi-esk anything so I was excited to try this. I dohave to say though, the image on the carton is not realistic.
It was a sticky mess. You have to microwave the rice cakes first then mix basically a hot cocoa mix with it. There is no way to get cute drizzles unless you mix it separately with water first but then the water left over from cooking the topokki would water everything down. This hot mess was easier and still really tasty.
Korean foods are just a trend, so I doubt we will be able to find this on the shelves much longer but it was a great snack and has a long shelf life. So, you know, stock up.
