The jungle next door

I am super happy to have a house to call my own and a yard to grow things and eventually make beautiful. I love a lush green against a bright blue sky.

The sight out of my window is nearly a dream come true... nearly. As it turns out there are downfalls to having such a gorgeously growing field next door. There are mosquitoes, croaking frogs (I don't mind, husband does) and oh my god the number of spiders!! But worst of all is the grass itself. Because we don't have a true fence or barrier between our yard and the next door city-owned lot of jungle, that jungle has pretty much spawned into our yard. Clumps of spiky grasses and tall towering weeds plague every millimeter of land around our home. this means those spiders and mosquitoes have also set up home here as well. There is a jungle outside that my son loves to romp and play in like a puppy but I am a bit more wary of having a panic attack from being mobbed by ginormous arachnids. Our narrow strip between home and that forest was even poisoned so you could get to the gas tanksThe jungle next door photo

Then, one day recently while I was enjoying the cool breeze with the windows open, I heard a magical sound. It was like music to my ears.

A lawn mower. Not just any lawn mower but an industrial-sized probably-could-have-cut-down-a-small-tree lawn mower. Some of the weeds in this lot were nearly the size of small trees, but that blue barrel of power plowed right over them. The team of two that leveled the forest to a field worked hard in the rain and had to make 3 passes over it to finally get it to the point of looking finished. I think they did a fabulous job!
