Salmon Tofu Ochazuke
I have been trying random things at the supermarket for lunch and this was probably the biggest fail so far. I thought it would be great because I love tofu and I love ochazuke. Ochazuke is usually a powder form of soup you pour on rice to make a porridge.
The lid instructed to transfer the soy soup the tofu was floating in into the larger bowl provided in the package, then add the tofu. Why they didn't just package it that way and waste less plastic, I'm not sure but whatever.
The look of it was pretty impressive. A pleasant coloration. But man that taste was not ok. I thought the soup portion would have more flavor because that is usually the point of dashi and ochazuke. It did not. The only flavor was in the flakes of salmon. Unfortunately these hard flakes took a long time to soak up any of the liquid so they were overly salty chunks of inedible flakes in an unflavorful bowl of mush. The tofu alone was the only thing decent. I ate the tofu and tossed the rest.
