The good
I don't know about you, but I yearn for decent cheese-laden savoury breads. When I find one, I want to tell you about it! This time, I discovered a snack, san shurui chizu pan, produced by Daiichi pan. It's a snack or side bread-like confection laden with three kinds of cheese. It's topped with grilled cheddar, gouda, and parmesan and stuffed with a generous helping of cream cheese. I recommend microwaving or toasting it for full flavour. I found this cheeese-laden item in a Namco-branded vending machine in a Saitama Prefecture suburb.
The not so good
I only have good things to say about this snack. It delivers in terms of cheese goodness. It's a rare treat to find a savoury cheese bread in Japan, never mind a cheap cheese fix from a vending machine. My workplace has both a microwave and an oven toaster. The first time I tried it, I simply gave it a 50-second heating in the microwave. It brought out the gouda and cream cheese flavours. On the second try, it went into the toaster. This made the edges of the bread crispy AND made the cheesy goodness better. I recommend the latter treatment.
